Overview

Tokyo VPS Hosting for Japan & East Asia

Tokyo is one of the largest metropolitan areas on Earth and one of the most important internet hubs in Asia. The city hosts several major internet exchanges, including JPIX, JPNAP and BBIX, along with a dense concentration of carriers, cloud providers and content networks. A Japan VPS in Tokyo puts your application on top of that infrastructure, delivering fast, stable connections to users throughout Japan.

Japanese users have high expectations. The country has excellent fibre broadband, very high mobile internet usage and a culture that values reliability and attention to detail. A Tokyo VPS helps you meet those expectations by keeping latency low for visitors in Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka, and by giving your service a local Japanese IP address.

Every Vebloom VPS in Japan runs on KVM virtualization with NVMe SSD storage. You get an isolated virtual machine with guaranteed CPU cores and memory, full root access and a dedicated IPv4 address. Host a Japanese-language website, an EC-CUBE or WooCommerce store, an internal tool, a trading tool or a SaaS backend — the choice is yours.

Japan is also a strategic location for the wider region. Transpacific subsea cables link Tokyo directly with the US West Coast, while Seoul, Taipei and Hong Kong are all within roughly 30–50 ms. That makes a Japanese VPS server a strong choice for media services, streaming platforms and SaaS products serving East Asia — and a good bridge between Asian and North American audiences.

Our eleven Japan VPS plans start at $14.99/month and scale to 96 GB of RAM with 24 cores. From a cheap Japan VPS for a personal project to a high-memory Linux VPS in Japan for production, you renew at the price you signed up for — and each region publishes its own plans and prices up front.

Why Tokyo

Why Choose a Tokyo VPS?

Tokyo combines world-class connectivity, a huge and affluent audience and a strategic position between Asia and North America.

Multiple Major Exchanges

Tokyo is home to several of Asia's largest internet exchanges, so your Japan VPS reaches Japanese ISPs and content networks through short, well-peered routes.

One of the World's Largest Economies

Japan is a large, affluent online market. Local hosting helps your store, SaaS or media platform deliver the speed Japanese customers expect.

A Media & Entertainment Capital

Japan is one of the world's biggest digital media markets. Host streaming relays, fan communities and media platforms with low latency for Japanese users.

Transpacific Gateway

Subsea cables connect Tokyo directly to the US West Coast, typically around 100 ms to Los Angeles — a strong bridge between Asia and North America.

Built for Resilience

Japanese data centers are designed around strict seismic and redundancy standards, reflecting the country's long focus on resilient infrastructure.

Close to East Asia

Seoul, Taipei and Hong Kong are typically within about 30–50 ms of Tokyo, so one Japan VPS can serve much of East Asia.

Network Reach

Fast Asia-Pacific Reach From Your Japan VPS

Japanese users notice slow websites. A VPS in Tokyo keeps latency within Japan in the single digits to low teens, delivering the snappy page loads, smooth gameplay and responsive dashboards that local audiences expect.

Tokyo's international links also bring much of East Asia within about 50 ms and the US West Coast within roughly 100 ms. If you serve Southeast Asia or Oceania heavily, pair your Japan VPS with our Singapore or Australia locations at the same price.

From Tokyo toTypical latency
Osaka, Japan~8 ms
Seoul, South Korea~32 ms
Taipei, Taiwan~38 ms
Hong Kong~48 ms
Manila, Philippines~60 ms
Singapore~70 ms
Bangkok, Thailand~80 ms
Seattle, USA~95 ms
Los Angeles, USA~105 ms
Sydney, Australia~115 ms

Approximate round-trip times over typical routes. Real-world latency varies with your ISP, peering and time of day.

Use Cases

What You Can Run on a Japan VPS

Whether you're launching in Japan or serving customers across Asia, a Tokyo VPS gives you dedicated performance and full control.

Streaming & Media Delivery

Serve video, audio and large downloads to Japanese audiences, backed by NVMe storage and included DDoS protection.

Japanese E-commerce

Run EC-CUBE, WooCommerce or Magento stores for Japanese shoppers with fast product pages and reliable checkouts.

Forex & Trading Tools

Japan has one of the world's largest retail forex markets. Run MetaTrader terminals, Expert Advisors and trading bots 24/7 on a Tokyo VPS.

Media, Anime & Fan Sites

Power media sites, fan communities, image galleries and streaming relays that serve Japan's enthusiastic online audiences.

SaaS & APIs for APAC

Deploy SaaS platforms, mobile app backends and APIs that need low latency across Japan, Korea and Taiwan.

Localisation & Testing

Test Japanese-localised websites, apps and services from a real Japanese IP address before launching in the market.

Plan Guide

Which Japan VPS Plan Is Right for You?

All 33 plans share the same KVM platform, NVMe storage and Tokyo network. The only difference is how much CPU, memory, disk and bandwidth you get, so the right choice depends on what you plan to run.

1–2 GB RAM

Starter Projects

With 1–2 GB RAM and a single CPU core, these plans suit personal websites, landing pages, a small WordPress blog, a private VPN, Discord or Telegram bots, cron jobs and development sandboxes. They are the most affordable way to get root access and a dedicated IP in Tokyo.

4–8 GB RAM

Growing Businesses

Our most popular range. 4–8 GB RAM and 2–4 cores comfortably run WooCommerce stores, several WordPress sites behind a control panel, Node.js or Laravel apps, internal tools and CI runners. Most businesses serving Japan start here.

8–16 GB RAM

Performance Workloads

8–16 CPU cores and 16–32 GB RAM give you room for busy databases, SaaS platforms, Docker and Kubernetes nodes, high-traffic media sites, analytics pipelines and several production services on one server.

16 GB RAM and above

Data-Heavy & High Concurrency

With 16–32 GB RAM and 8–16 CPU cores, these plans handle large databases, search engines, media processing, CPU-based AI inference and enterprise applications that need to stay close to users in Japan.

Not sure where to start? Pick the smaller plan that fits today and upgrade as you grow — moving from one Japan VPS plan to a larger one usually needs only a brief restart and your data stays in place. Because every Vebloom region prints its plans and prices up front, adding servers in other regions later is just as easy to budget for.

Included

Everything Included With Every Japan VPS

No setup fees and no paid add-ons for the essentials — every plan ships with the same core features.

Instant Deployment

Your Japan VPS is provisioned automatically, usually within about 60 seconds of payment. Choose your operating system, set your credentials and connect — no ticket queue and no manual setup delays.

DDoS Protection

Multi-layer DDoS mitigation is included on every plan at no extra cost. Malicious traffic is filtered before it reaches your server, helping keep your Tokyo VPS online during attacks.

Full Root Access

Complete administrative control over your server. Install any software stack, tune kernel parameters, write your own firewall rules and run whatever services your project needs — no restrictions.

NVMe SSD Storage

All plans use NVMe SSD storage, which reads and writes far faster than traditional SATA SSDs. The result is quicker page loads, snappier databases and faster builds and backups.

Automated Backups

Daily automated backups keep your data safe, with seven days of snapshots available so you can restore your VPS to a previous state if an update or deployment goes wrong.

24/7 Expert Support

Our engineers are available around the clock via live chat, email and WhatsApp to help with provisioning, networking and server-level issues whenever you need them.

Data Residency

APPI & Data Residency in Japan

Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI) governs how businesses handle personal data about individuals in Japan and is overseen by the Personal Information Protection Commission (PPC). The APPI includes rules on cross-border transfers of personal data, so many Japanese companies and their partners prefer to keep customer data on servers located in Japan.

Hosting your VPS in Tokyo keeps the data on that server physically within Japan, which simplifies data residency discussions with Japanese customers and partners. Japan and the European Union also recognise each other's data protection frameworks as adequate, which can be helpful for businesses operating in both regions.

Server location is only one part of compliance. With full root access to your Japan VPS, you control encryption, access management, logging and data retention, and you remain responsible for handling personal information properly. Our team is happy to discuss your requirements before you deploy.

Setting Up Your Japan VPS

From Order to a Secure Server: Your First Hour on a Japan VPS

A VPS gives you full control, which means the setup is yours to do. These steps are the ones we recommend for any new server in Tokyo, Japan.

1Choose the Operating System

Most websites and applications run on Linux. Ubuntu LTS and Debian are the most common choices, because they are widely documented, receive long security support and are easy to find help for. AlmaLinux and Rocky Linux suit people who prefer the Red Hat family. Choose Windows only when you need Windows software, such as .NET applications or trading terminals.

Pick the system you or your developer already know. A familiar system is easier to secure and to fix when something goes wrong.

2Log In and Update the Server

After your Japan VPS is delivered, you receive its IP address and login details. Connect from a terminal with SSH, using the root login first, then update the system straight away so that known security fixes are installed.

  • Connect with ssh root@your-server-ip and change the root password if you are asked to
  • Update the package list and installed software with the system's package manager, such as apt update && apt upgrade on Ubuntu or Debian
  • Restart the server if the update installs a new kernel
  • Set the server's time zone and hostname so that logs are easy to read

3Secure Access Before Anything Else

A public server is probed within minutes of going online, so secure access first. Create a normal user with sudo rights, add an SSH key for it, and then disable password logins and direct root login in the SSH settings. Keys are far harder to guess than passwords.

  • Create a new user and give it sudo rights
  • Generate a key pair on your computer with ssh-keygen -t ed25519 and copy the public key to the server
  • Turn off password authentication and root login in the SSH configuration, then test a new session before closing the old one
  • Turn on a firewall such as UFW, and allow only the ports you need (SSH, and 80 and 443 for web)
  • Install Fail2ban to block repeated failed logins

Always keep one working SSH session open while you change SSH or firewall settings, so that a mistake does not lock you out.

4Install Your Web Stack

Install only what you need. A typical website uses a web server (Nginx or Apache), PHP or another runtime, and a database such as MySQL, MariaDB or PostgreSQL. A Node.js application usually runs behind Nginx as a reverse proxy, managed with a process manager.

Add HTTPS with a free certificate from Let's Encrypt, using Certbot, and set it to renew automatically. Point your domain's A record at the server's IP address, and give DNS a little time to spread. If you need a domain, you can register one with us.

5Backups and Monitoring

A server without backups is a risk waiting to happen. Schedule daily backups of your files and databases and keep copies in a different place from the server, then test restoring one. Monitor disk space, memory and CPU, and set up an uptime check that emails you when the site stops responding.

Updates matter too. Turn on automatic security updates where suitable, and review the server once a month.

6When to Upgrade or Add Servers

Watch your resource use over a few weeks. If memory, CPU or disk are regularly near their limit, move to a larger plan. If you need to serve users in another part of the world, add a second server in that region rather than overloading one location. Our guide to choosing a VPS location explains how to decide.

More Questions

More About a Japan VPS

Extra answers for new server owners.

Do I need to know Linux to use a VPS?
Basic command-line skills help a lot, because you manage the server yourself. If you would rather not, ask our team about setup, or choose managed web hosting.
How quickly is my server ready?
Provisioning is automated, so most servers are ready shortly after payment is confirmed, and the login details are sent to you.
Can I run a website and a database on the same VPS?
Yes. Many small and medium sites run the web server and database together. Larger projects separate them as traffic grows.
Can I install a control panel?
Yes. Because you have root access, you can install a control panel of your choice, or manage the server directly from the command line.
Can I use the VPS for email?
You can, but running reliable email takes care with DNS records, reputation and security. Many businesses use a hosted mailbox and keep the VPS for applications.
What if I choose the wrong location?
A VPS stays in the location it was ordered in, so choose carefully. To change, order a server in the new place and move your data across.
